- Crosses the mid line
- Separates descending aorta from pericardium
- Beware tamponade physiology
Pleural Effusion
- Accumulates posterolateral to the descending aorta
- Typically, not present in the subxyphoid view given no pleural reflection between the liver & heart
Use multiple views to differentiate.
